Build a New Era for Retail Intelligently, Interpret This New Era Comprehensively

From March 22nd to 24th, 2018, the 98th China Food and Drinks Fair was grandly held in Chengdu Western China International Expo City. On March 23rd, “Good Product, New Channel” Summit Forum, a famous forum activity that had continued for successive sessions in China Food and Drinks Fairs, was successfully held in the multi-function room of Hall 9 in Chengdu Western China International Expo City.

Focusing on Reconstruction of People, Goods, and Venues,Industry Experts Interpreted “New Retail” in Depth

2017 Marks the beginning of a new era for retail for innovative models that have mushroomed across the industry. The emergence of “intelligent retail” and “boundless retail” heralds that the new models will further blur the lines, separating on-line and off-line retail in the future. With the reconstruction of people, goods, and venues, it is a top priority of each enterprise to better meet consumer demand.

On the theme of “Build a New Era for Retail Intelligently”, topics about “New Retail” were deeply analyzed for general merchants at the 10th “Good Product, New Channel” Summit Forum. On the spot, Mr. Tang Dong, from Nielsen (China) Consumer Packaged Goods Service Unit, thoroughly analyzed the change and opportunity of the new era for retail for the participants, from the aspects of consumer behavior and consumer demand. From the perspective of a senior media executive, Mr. Quan Changlian, CEO of Internal Reference for Retailers, a professional media in the new era for retail, mentioned the comparatively huge driving factors in the evolution and development progress of New Retail, including technical improvement, consumption upgrade, flow transformation, scene revolution and big data competency. The round-table interactive section was a climax in the morning session, where Mr. Zeng Xiang, Food Legal Specialist from The Alibaba Group Legal Department, Mr. Yan Zhinong, Executive Director of The Walmart Food Safety Collaboration Center (WFSCC), Mr. Yang Mingsheng, CEO of Beijing Deban Technologies Co., Ltd., and Mr. Feng Chenchen, Manager of Customer Service Department of Sincerity in Food Industry of PwC China, deeply communicated with the participants about the application of blockchain in food retail trade. This section was held by Mr. Wang Fang, Vice President of Golden Arch (China) Co., Ltd. in charge of Food Safety. From product traceability to logistics and supply chain, to retailers and up to consumers, the application of blockchain technology makes each step very transparent.

Combining Consumption Upgrade with “New Retail”,Industry Veterans Contributed Ideas

Mr. Wang Qi, Deputy General Manager of Fresh Legend, was invited to share the business model of his company, from six aspects--close to customers; quality priority; favorable price; simple management; lower comprehensive cost; and explosion of New Retail. Mr. Wu Jinhong, Board Chairman of China Ant Business Association, brought solutions to region-based retail enterprises centering on product upgrading. Mr. Fu Wen, Director of delivery and advertising departments of Jingdong Logistics in charge of Southwest China, gave the participants a deeper understanding of the convenience that boundless retail provides for enterprises and distribution channels. Under the present retail circumstance, the New Retail transformation and innovation of retail enterprises must rely on the new digital information technology. Mr. Wang Yongsen, CEO of Shandiangou, caught two important points which benefited the present traditional retailers a lot. The first point was that omni-channel is the major strategy of upgrading from Entity Retail Sales to New Retail. The second was using membership digitalization to drive the digitalization of overall operation. On the topic of unmanned convenience stores, Mr. Shen Bowei, CEO of Citybox, communicated with the present distributors, including how to energize New Retail using scientific and technological means and how to display goods in consideration of consumer behavior.

The 10th “Good Product, New Channel” Summit Forum lasting a whole day benefited the participants a lot. The sharing and discussion about the topics of consumer information index, New Retail drive, community economy, region-based enterprises, logistics supply chain, and scientific and technological innovation also gave the food enterprises and distributors enormous benefits. In this October, the golden autumn, “Good Product, New Channel” Summit Forum will take place in Changsha. The industry participants will continue to discuss deeply and learn from each other centering on the topics of channel innovation and New Retail development.
